D’marie sees himself as a role model for the younger members of the club, helping with homework, coaching basketball, and talking to junior members about peer pressure and overcoming obstacles. He is looking forward to being one of the first members of the Teen Junior Staff. His goal is to attend Western Michigan University and eventually become a counselor.

In an impassioned speech in front of judges and other attendees at the Youth of the Year competition, D’marie spoke to the importance of family and support systems, citing the Boys & Girls clubs as his second family. The organization has helped to shape his character, he said.

A judging panel headed by Kalamazoo Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Michael Rice awarded D’Marie Youth of the Year honors for the Greater Kalamazoo area for the 2011-20012 school year. D’marie will head to the next round of the Youth of the Year program, and compete against local winners from around Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.

Your support is more important than ever! Join us this year to celebrate 21 years of good times, great golf, and making a difference in a child’s life!

The Courses

Course selection will be first come, first serve, so register early!

Gull Lake Country Club – Richland, MI – The Gull Lake Country Club course provides a scattering of trees that can alter your shots, plus challenging, rolling fairways. There are no water hazards on the course, but plenty of well-positioned sand bunkers have been incorporated into its design. This is a beautiful course for a relaxing round of golf. For more on Gull Lake Country Club, please visit www.gulllakecc.com.

Yarrow Golf Club – Augusta, MI – Yarrow Golf Course has a links-style feel with wide fairways and large, distinctively rolling greens guarded by strategically located sand bunkers. Every aspect of Yarrow contributes to the characteristics of a course that is an enjoyable experience for all golfers. For more on the Yarrow Golf Course, please visit www.yarrowgolf.com.

Once Gull Lake Country Club and Yarrow Golf Club have been filled, additional foursomes will play at Bedford Valley Golf Course, one of the 5 beautiful Gull Lake View courses. The classic design is known locally as “The Big Course” with huge greens, large bunkers, and fairways lined with might oaks. For more information on Bedford Valley, please visit www.gulllakeview.com/bedford-valley.htm.

Schedule of Play

Gull Lake Country Club

Dinner and Program

The dinner and program will be held at the Gull Lake Country Club’s Lakeview Room directly after play. The Lakeview Room has stunning views of Gull Lake and an outdoor patio. A delicious dinner buffet featuring chicken and ribs will be served.

Your Participation Impacts Lives

The Boys & Girls Clubs provide positive programs and a safe haven for school-age youth in the greater Kalamazoo area. Between its 2 locations, the Clubs serve an average of 250 youth each and every day.

The Clubs are open to youth from all backgrounds, but serve a large number of young people who are facing tremendous obstacles in their lives. Many of our Club members experience extreme poverty, hunger, violence, lack of positive guidance, and hopelessness on a daily basis. The Club offers safety, hope and opportunity by providing youth with positive role models and rich experiences. Programs are offered in areas such as the arts, sports and recreation, health and life skills, education and careers, and leadership.

Your sponsorship of the 21th Annual Boys & Girls Club Golf Outing is an investment in our community’s youth. For more information and a look at the work supported by your generosity, please visit www.bgckalamazoo.org.
