“There is one story that always sticks out for me. A little boy and his sister came to the club every day after school. The boy was about 7 and the girl was about 5. One day, there was a freezing rain coming down and the schools had been cancelled. When I got to work at 8:00, they were standing outside the Club door wearing t-shirts and were very cold. Even though the club didn’t open until 1:00, they had nowhere else to go, so we brought them in to warm up and hang out until the club opened. A few weeks later, they were taken out of their home. Apparently, it was an abusive household. They were put in foster care and we never saw them again. It made me realize what this place can really be to these kids. After school, this is the only safe place some of them have.”
